Adventure Tours

Expand your knowledge and your palate when you discover what’s behind the gastronomic appreciation of the “gold grain” of Costa Rica. Monteverde Coffee is one of the best and most important in the country; Learn how a delicious cup of coffee is prepared on this cultural, historical and tasty tour.
Visit the plantation, the toaster and the place of preparation. Coffee spins the world. Once you know the full story of how coffee passes from cherry, to grain, to preparation, you will understand why the origin is as important as the taste.

The tour begins with a short walk through the farm where you can see sugar cane plantations, coffee, cocoa and more. Enjoy the whole traditional process of sugarcane, get on a Costa Rican cart pulled by oxen and experience the process of making liquor with sugarcane to end up enjoying a delicious glass of cane juice.
Nature Tours

As the sun sets, the forest comes alive with mysterious sounds and shadows. You will receive a flashlight to help you find your way through the windy forest trails, you can explore and search for insects, mammals and birds. As the experienced guide walks, they visit their favorite places where wildlife is regularly observed.
Night tours are a fun way to learn about the nightlife of the forests. Depending on the season, you can see sleeping birds, such as the famous quetzals, toucans, bellbirds, and visiting migratory birds. Kinkajous and other mammals such as sloths, olingos and monkeys are frequently observed. Other nocturnal creatures are snakes, tarantulas, frogs and amazing insects.

The Eternal Forest of Children is the largest private reserve in Costa Rica, bought by children from more than 44 countries in a collaboration to preserve the rainforest. Visitors come to walk and see the native wildlife in the park, which runs through mountains and valleys between Arenal National Park and Monteverde.

It is one of the most famous reserves in the world, known for its biodiversity and conservation efforts. It was founded in 1972. In the reserve, you can experience four different life zones with hundreds of species of reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals, insects and arachnids. The Monteverde Reserve is also one of the best places to see the resplendent quetzal, the three-beard bellbird in danger of extinction, the howler and cappuccino monkeys, the sloths and more!

It is unique because it is managed by the administrative board of the Santa Elena Public High School. A percentage of the money raised by the reserve is allocated to the education of young people in the community. The community of Santa Elena borders the Monteverde conservation area in the Cordillera de Tilarán.
This reserve was opened in March 1992. The reserve was created based on the determination of a community to help preserve a unique cloud forest and use tourism as a tool to benefit community development in Monteverde. The Santa Elena Reserve is one of the first reserves managed by the community in the country.

The Curi-Cancha Reserve extends over 237 acres (96 ha) and protects the primary and secondary rainforests. The trails are well maintained. This is the perfect place to watch birds like the keel toucan, the blue-throated goldentail, the orange-bellied trogan and many more.

Bat Jungle educational exhibits cover almost every facet of a bat’s existence. Visitors will learn about the diversity and abundance of bats, where they perch and what they eat (including fruits, nectar, insects, frogs, fish, birds, lizards and mice), and how their wings compare to the wings of the birds. Ecolocation is explained, as well as the eating habits of bats.
Other exhibits discuss the importance of bat conservation to control the insect population, regenerate tropical forests and pollinate flowers. Specific conservation issues are also explored, including the construction of bat houses and the transport of populations of unwanted bats.

The garden was founded in 1989 by biologist Jim Wolfe and his wife Marta, with the aim of educating visitors about the native populations of insects and butterflies in Costa Rica. Jim and Marta have raised butterflies and other insects by hand during the last sixteen years, and have great knowledge about these fragile creatures. Unlike other gardens that buy their pupae, all the butterflies in the garden are raised on the premises.

For those who prefer to see reptiles behind glass, a guide will show you around and present you with more than 50 species of snakes, frogs, lizards, turtles and other cold-blooded creatures. Visits after dark are unique, since species in general are more active and vocal during the night. The terrariums are acclimatized to the species that inhabit them, giving them a comfortable and appropriate environment. A guide will be there to describe each species, its characteristics and survival instincts.

The Ranarium located in Monteverde is a great place to visit at night. It has more than 20 species of frogs and other amphibians and allows visitors to appreciate the beauty of these animals and learn about their role in nature.
Some of the species include the great sea toad, the colorful poison arrow frog and the famous red-eyed tree frog.
Visitors receive an informative guided tour of the terrariums with their entrance picket.
